Walking through the park, seeing the blossoms come out in spring, feeling the sea breeze in your face, observing animals and birds, there\u2019s no denying the awe of nature whilst living with changes in the environment and plastics in fashion.<\/p>
<\/p>
For years, when shopping for clothes I was mainly looking at the appearance and design. At some point though, I became increasingly aware with tops, t-shirts and jeans\/trousers where fabrics felt plasticy on my body. You know when you put on a jumper and you can hear the statics noise. I then started looking at labels whether physically in store or online.<\/p>
It became apparent that most t-shirts and tops went from cotton to a blend of cotton with polyester (plastic) to 100% polyester.\u00a0<\/em><\/p> A report from WRAP UK mentioned that not only more clothes are produced every year but that plastic fabrics like polyester and acrylic are increasingly used because they are cheaper. That\u2019s a lot of plastic being shed around us during washing and most of the wasted tonnes of fashion go to landfill or are burned.<\/p> I decided to make the start to not buy any more tops or t-shirts with polyester or nylon.<\/p> It<\/em><\/a>\u2019s not easy to step away from a nice looking design when you find out that the fibres are plastic. Even recycled polyester has been recently debunked as shedding more microplastic fibres than virgin polyester.*<\/em><\/p> It\u2019s a learning curve and still learning. Where could I find unique t-shirts or basics which are not made out of plastic and are long wearing?!<\/p> Enter the collab with my design studio Lumimango design x Teemill.<\/em><\/p> It<\/a> was important to me to find a supplier who carries environmental values where everyone is involved being part of a solution.<\/p> <\/p> This looks like:<\/p> \u2022 Starting from using natural materials like organic cotton, using renewable energy to produce high quality clothing,<\/p> \u2022 Adding on my stamp of design inspired by nature & the cosmos.<\/p> \u2022 The circle continues with being printed one at a time in real time to order - that\u2019s what people need, when they need it.<\/p> \u2022 The goods are delivered in plastic-free paper packaging.<\/p> \u2022 When they\u2019re worn out, you return the clothes (just scan the barcode on the label) and you get a store credit whilst the old t-shirt is remilled into a new t-shirt.<\/p> Closing the loop.
